Small business owners under the Health Care Reform Act are now able to offer affordable health insurance plans to their employees. Previously, small business owners were faced with lack of coverage availability and expensive health care plans for their employees. Now, thanks to the Affordable Care Act, smaller employers have more options to select from, making health insurance more affordable for both themselves and their employees.
Employers must provide health plans that meet the minimum guidelines for a bronze plan coverage and is required to cover at least 60 percent of the employees’ premiums. Depending upon the type and size of the business, employers may be eligible for tax credits up to 35 percent of their share of the premiums.
It is not required by law for an employer to offer health insurance to employees. However, if health insurance is offered, it must be offered to all employees in the same category. For example, some employers only offer health insurance to full-time employees and not those who work part-time.
