Keeping your children safe on fright night.
Halloween is all about getting dressed up, trick-or-treating, and enjoying all things spooky! Not only is the ideal holiday for children (free candy and playing dress up!) but it can reunite neighborhoods and join communities together. Even so, many parents forget that this night is full of hidden dangers that their children face.
The quickest way to ruin Halloween night is to spend the night in the E.R. Keep the trickery away but the treats flowing with these important safety tips:
Cross with Care
Always use designated crosswalks, look left and right before stepping onto the road, and walk on sidewalks when possible. Teach children to be aware of turning cars and making eye contact with drivers before crossing
Maintain Adult Supervision
Young children should never trick-or-treat alone, even if it’s still light outside. Adults should be there to guide them to the correct streets, neighborhoods, and houses.
Choose Costumes Carefully
Be sure that your child only uses plastics props and does not have any dragging material that may cause a trip or a fall. Test make-up on a small patch of skin before applying it to the entire face, and choose costumes that are flame-resistant.
Drive with Diligence
If you and your child are driving round multiple neighborhoods, be aware that many children will be out trick-or-treating on Halloween night. Slow down, look for children who may cross the road unexpectedly, and eliminate any distractions in the car so that you are focused. Understand that children may spring out of nowhere, so keep your eyes open for crossing children and wandering ghouls!
