Motorcycle Maintenance Tips
Summer has officially started, which means that it is time to jump on your motorcycle and enjoy the warm weather. If your bike has been sitting in your garage waiting for the sun to come out, it is vital to take the time to ensure that it is ready for the road. Keep these motorcycle maintenance tips in mind before you hit the road.
- Replace coolant, spark plugs, and engine oil – while your bike sits in storage, your spark plugs can easily corrode, so replace them with new ones. It is also the perfect time to replace your oil and coolant to make sure that your bike runs smoothly.
- Replace your filters – while you are replacing your fuel and air filters, take a look at your fuel tank, lines, and fittings to make sure that there are no leaks or cracks. You should also consider using a fuel cleaning the first couple of times that you fill up your tank.
- Check the suspension and body – take a good look at your bike and check the cable connections, handlebars, and frame for any small cracks. Even a small hairline crack could turn into a serious issue if you are riding down rough roads. Also, look at the fender mounting hardware and rear shocks.
- Check the brakes, battery, chains, and tires – clean and reconnect your battery if you took it out for the winter. Take a look at the brake pads, cables, and disks to make sure that they are in good condition. Make sure that the tires are properly inflated and that you have plenty of tire tread to stay safe.
Most importantly, check your motorcycle insurance to ensure that you have the right amount of protection for any peril that you have on the road. Contact Martplan Insurance Agency in La Habra, California for all of your motorcycle insurance needs.
